I always look forward to the Herve Leger show, excited to see what new variations on the iconic bandage dress designers Max and Lubov Azria will have come up with each season. It's true they face the daunting challenge of being inventive while retaining the classic body con silhouettes that the label's loyal fans demand. But more than just a fresh take, the Fall 2014 collection was cutting edge as Herve Leger entered "the world of technology, diffusing the line between fantasy and reality".
The palette was a mostly cool and radiant mix of black, grey, blue and whites accented by bright pops of orange and lime. Rather than relying on prints, this season focused on mixing textures that were inspired by nature and "digitally transformed" into 3-D jacquards that added new dimension to the body con lines and pixilated metal beading resembling stars in a far off galaxy. The cage corset belts and fit-and-flare dresses that were a carryover from last season were even revamped to fit the futuristic vibe; A-line skirts were created out of wide cut fringe double-layered in contrasting colors, while the corsets were molded to look like an extension of the seams.
The overall femininity of Herve Leger's dresses was still present and sexy as ever. Contrasting layered bandage patterns replaced the classic horizontal lines and were accented by metal clasps that looked as if they were cleverly holding it all together. This also allowed for more exaggerated peek-a-boo cutouts on both the sides and front-and-center. The separates were heavy on midriff-bearing crop tops that were appropriately paired for Fall with leather and fox fur outerwear. Herve Leger's longer hemlines were also still present, but balanced by ultra sexy thigh-high black leather boots and super sleek vamp ponytails. Some of my favorite highlights included broad-shouldered jackets with feather sleeves and optic multi-texture skirts.
Herve Leger's Fall 2014 collection was full of pieces that I could envision as a uniform for a futuristic race of women warriors that conquer planets with their sex appeal, but here on earth it's perfect for those of us just want to turn heads. You could even say it's out of this world.
