A major part of being any member of society, be it high-society or otherwise, is giving back. Savvy philanthropists and celebs did just that at New York’s elegant Capitale on October 17th at the 3rd Annual Caron Renaissance “Save a Life” Benefit. Russell Simmons and RHONY socialite Kelly Bensimon, whom I had the good fortune to meet, hosted the extravagant event. In an exquisite setting, guests enjoyed sumptuous hors’ de oeuvres, a gastronomical feast and lively entertainment performed by Latin musical sensation Papaguyo. All of the glamour was not without due cause, however, as the Caron Renaissance Foundation is one of the leading organization that helps those is need of addiction treatment.
Christopher Kennedy Lawford, an accomplished actor, activist, and most recently author of the NY Time’s bestseller Symptoms of Withdrawl: A Memoir of Snapshots and Redemption, gave a touching speech about his own battle with drug and alcohol addiction. Having been in recovery for over 25 years, Mr. Lawford’s presence was inspiring, and embodied the night’s spirit of celebrating recovery.
Both a silent and live auction enabled guests to do some luxury shopping while helping this worthwhile cause, and included items from sports memorabilia to trendy accessories. The crowd was elegant, stylish and refreshingly enthusiastic to show their support. Overall, this event was a culmination of beauty, inspiration and charity. Keep your eyes open, as future Caron Renaissance Foundation events should not be missed.
